Natural Analgesics

When you feel pain who doesn’t want to do something about it?

Heck yeah!

Below I have some natural ways to help yourself in these situations. Ready?

1. Emu Oil – I mentioned this in the January newsletter but it is worth repeating here. Emu oil is an anti-inflammatory agent and natural painkiller, relieving muscle and joint pain and improving wound recovery. A study published in Inflammopharmacology found that when used topically, emu oil’s anti-inflammatory properties were as effective as oral administration of ibuprofen in rats. I have been using it myself for the last 4-5 months and have found it helpful. Clients also report that they find it reduces soreness.

2. Deep Relief Essential Oil Blend – This wintergreen-y blend is simply the best for headaches and neck pain. Unique to Young Living, this blend comes in a roller bottle that makes application to the temples or at the base of the skull easy. This is available in the office for purchase.

3. Arnica Gel – This is a homeopathic preparation in a gel form. Arnica is highly effective for bruising, strains, and swelling.

4. Magnesium Oil – Contrary to what the name says magnesium oil does not have oil in it at all. Rather, when this particular type of magnesium mixes with water it takes on an oily feel. Spraying this onto a sore area and then going to bed can be quite soothing.

5. Epsom Salt Bath – Another type of magnesium, epsom salt, in a bath is equally soothing. Make sure to put enough into the water for best results and to soak long enough. What is enough? 1-2 cups. How long is long enough? Give yourself an hour.

6. Ice Pack – Don’t forget a good, old fashioned ice pack. Ice pushes swelling out of an area leaving you with better range of motion. Applying an ice pack for 20 minutes on an area after wrapping it in a towel is how to do it. The age old question of ‘what is better – ice or heat’ always comes up…ICE. Ice is better. Sure heat feels better but it leaves you stiff and does not affect your insides the same way ice does.

THANK YOU FOR BEING A CLIENT.
