MODALITY MINUTE: Aromatherapy Adds ZIP to Holiday Cooking

Aromatherapy adds flavor to food without extra sugar or calories. Essential oils are nature’s medicine. They not only surround us with wonderful aroma and flavor, they also have the power to relieve headaches, chest congestion, fatigue, stress, allergies, depression, insomnia, indigestion, cuts, sunburn, arthritis pain and some chronic medical conditions.
Today the average American consumes 150-200 pounds per year…1/2t every 30 min in spite of the fact that it has NO nutritional value and robs the body of minerals, B vitamins and other essential nutrients. Sugar paralyzes the immune system and is one of the leading causes of illness. Sugar negatively effects the production of long chain fat DHA critical for optimal behavior and in the prevention of depression and Alzheimer’s.

Using Therapeutic grade Essential Oils, try dipping a toothpick into some ginger, peppermint, nutmeg, cinnamon, cassia, lemon, orange, basil, marjoram, or fennel and swirling it in your holiday cooking.

OIL ESSENTIALS: Abundance Blend

AbundanceT enhances the frequency of the harmonic magnetic energy field surrounding us. This higher frequency creates what is called “the law of attraction,” referring to the things we attract to ourselves. Abundance opens us to a wealth of possibilities.
The spicy blend of orange, frankincense, patchouli, clove, ginger, myrrh, cinnamon, and spruce is warming and wonderfully welcoming to hoilday guests when diffused in your home. With abundance comes thoughts of thankfulness. Happy Thanksgiving!

RESEARCH: Belly Laughing

In his book The Heart’s Code (Broadway, 1998), Paul Pearsall, Ph.D. states,

“Laughter is the outward manifestation of increased heart rate and oxygen intake accompanied by some of the most healthy psychological changes that can happen to our body. Psychologist William Fry Jr’s research shows that 20 seconds of quffawing gives the heart the same beneficial workout at three minutes of hard rowing. While increased heart beat that accompanies anger leads to toxic changes in the cardiovascular system, the rhythm of a joyful ‘hearty’ laughter produced more healthy effects for everyone who heard it.”

GENTLE REMINDERS: Laugh Well

“Heart” humor is compassionate laughing with another.
“Brain”humor is mocking laughing at another.
Laughter:
-is one of the most effective ways of teaching
-allows the brain to rest
-expresses love
-lack of shared humor is an early sign of failing intimate relationship
-helps people see several perspectives and see problens coming from any side
-leads to strengthened immunity, healing, and cardiovascular health
-easy, honest, connecting…is a sign of good health
-is one of the best ways to avoid aggression, release tension/anxiety, enhance immunity, and prevent heart disease

MAILBAG: Migraine GONE with Craniosacral Therapy

A pretty full weekend brought along an unusually tough migraine. I normally use a prescription, so I took my medication and waited…and waited. After three doses (I usually take only one) and a long day at work on Monday with little relief, I called Monica on Tuesday about a craniosacral therapy session. When I left her office, I already felt so much better.

Monica took the time to talk with me and explain what might be going on and what I should expect. By the next morning, I had complete relief. The best part of the therapy is no hangover the next day (if you have migraines, you know what I’m talking about). One week later, I still feel great. Thank you to Monica for her professionalism and caring manner.

I usually feel like a truck hit me after a bad migraine, but none of that. Within about an hour of getting home Tuesday evening, I felt so much better. Like you said, on Wednesday morning, I felt a little off, but by noon, I felt great! Thank you so much…you saved my week!
